Authenticity & Stewardship

Since 2012, Heather and Blair have been personally harvesting and preparing wild chaga in Northern Ontario, building Annanda on a foundation of respect for the forest and gratitude for what it provides.

As a family-owned Canadian apothecary based in Sault Ste. Marie, our work reflects a dual commitment: the responsible, wild harvesting of Canadian chaga, and the intentional, organic cultivation of medicinal mushrooms.

Our names are our bond. When you see our mark, you can trust that what you are holding is rooted in integrity, carefully handled from forest to finished product, and guided by the Wisdom of the Forest.

Annanda Chaga® and Annanda Organics® are registered trademarks of our family-run business, representing our commitment to quality, transparency, and stewardship since 2012.

Our Story | Heather and Blair Annanda Chaga Mushrooms

Heather & Blair of Annanda

Blair’s journey began during a challenging period in his life when he was searching for balance and deeper understanding. Despite numerous tests and consultations, he felt called to explore a more holistic and nature‑based approach to well‑being. This path led him to meditation, Tai Chi, and the discovery of wild chaga mushroom.

As these practices became part of his daily life, Blair experienced a meaningful personal shift—greater resilience, clarity, and connection. Inspired by his experience, he began sharing chaga with friends and family, many of whom spoke of their own positive changes in well‑being.

Today, Blair lives an active, grounded life and remains deeply grateful for the role that mindfulness, movement, and forest wisdom have played in his journey.

Heather’s connection to nature began early in life. Growing up in far Northwestern Ontario, the forest became a place of refuge and renewal. After making the courageous decision to leave a difficult situation, Heather met Blair and began her own journey with chaga and intentional self‑care.

Through regular use of chaga tea and tinctures, combined with a slower, more mindful way of living, Heather noticed gradual yet meaningful changes in how she felt—physically, mentally, and emotionally. She describes a growing clarity of mind and a deeper ability to live in the present moment.

Today, Heather and Blair walk their path together with humility and purpose. They feel honoured to steward chaga responsibly and to share its spirit with others who are seeking connection—to nature, to balance, and to themselves.

The experiences shared above are personal and individual. Chaga mushroom products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Individual results may vary.

Canadian Boreal Forests

    Canadian Chaga Mushrooms

Heather and Blair harvests chaga from deep within the Boreal forests of Northwestern Ontario.  Boreal comes from the greek word “Boreas”, the North wind; the cold breath of the god Borealis.

  • Boreal Forests

Within the Boreal forests the number of tree species is small; black and white spruce, balsam fir, white and yellow birch, aspen, and white cedar in the moist places and here and there a few larches and pine.

The spruce prevailing on the high lands and the birch and aspen near water, yet everywhere a certain proportion of each". J. Elliot Cabot 1850

  • Northern Ontario Chaga

Chaga becomes much more potent in Northern climates where the winters stay well below -40 Celsius.  The secondary metabolites or phyto-nutrients are enhanced to much higher concentrations so chaga mushrooms coming from Northern Ontario are much more medicinal than those found within more southern areas around Canada.
