Canadian roots in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada

A Family Business Rooted in Northern Ontario

Annanda was founded by Heather and Blair in Sault Ste. Marie, where years spent exploring the forests of the Algoma Highlands sparked a deep interest in chaga and functional mushrooms.

What began as a personal connection to the boreal forest has grown into a Canadian family business dedicated to sustainable harvesting, small-batch preparation, and sharing forest wisdom with others.

Today, every order is still prepared in Northern Ontario and shipped directly from our care.

Rooted in the Algoma Highlands

Sault Ste. Marie is more than our address — it is the landscape that shaped Annanda.

Situated at the meeting point of three Great Lakes, our region marks the gateway to Northern Ontario’s boreal forests. Long winters, clean water, and vast stretches of forest define this place. It is here, in the Algoma Highlands, that our relationship with chaga first began.

Life at the Edge of the Boreal Forest

Northern ecosystems move at a different pace. Growth is slow. Seasons are extreme. Forests here are shaped as much by resilience as by abundance.

Chaga is part of this environment — a slow‑forming, birch‑associated fungus that develops over many years in living forests. Our work is guided by respect for that pace and for the conditions that allow chaga to exist at all.

Harvesting with Restraint

We do not approach the forest as a resource to be exhausted.

Each piece of chaga is wild‑harvested by hand in the Algoma District, following careful, low‑impact practices aimed at protecting the host tree and surrounding ecosystem. The goal is continuity, not yield — allowing forests to regenerate and cycles to continue.

Small‑Batch, Close to Home

By keeping our operations local to Sault Ste. Marie, we maintain a direct relationship with every stage of the process — from forest to finished product.

Chaga is dried, prepared, and extracted in small batches with close attention to sourcing, handling, and transparency. This proximity allows accountability at every step

Rooted Locally, Shared Online
